How to Become an Online Notary in Utah



As of January 27, 2023, These are the requirements to become a Remote Online Notary in the state of Utah. First off, you already need to be a commissioned notary through the state.. If you want to become a remote online Notary in Utah, you’ll need to follow these steps below.

Fill out the Application Form
Select a Utah State Approved Remote Notary Vendor
Increase your existing notarial bond to $10,000 of coverage. A notary can contact the Utah SoS if they are unsure who they’re bonded through.
Obtain Electronic Seal/Signature (this is available free through BlueNotary)
Submit your Application, bond rider, and PDF file sample document containing your electronic signature and seal to notary@utah.gov.
Pay the $50.00 application fee. Your Payment instructions will be sent via email as soon as the Lt. Governor’s office has reviewed your submitted documents.
Receive confirmation & approval from the state!

Once you’re authorized to perform RON in Utah and approved and familiar with your platform, you can start performing Remote Online Notarizations. Be sure to stay current with all your states local Online Notary laws!

What are the requirements to become a Notary in Utah?



Below are Utah’s eligibility requirements. Ensure that you meet them before proceeding.

You must be at least 18 years of age.
You must have a valid Utah driver’s license or identification card.
You must complete an approved six-hour Notary public education course and pass the exam with a score of 80% or higher.
You must submit an application to the Utah Division of Corporations and Commercial Code.
You must purchase a notary bond of $5,000 from an approved surety company.
You must submit a Notary public commission form with your application.
You must pass a background check conducted by the state Bureau of Criminal Identification.

How to Become a Traditional Notary in Utah (Get your Notary Commission)



To become a Utah Notary Public, you need to complete the following:

Assure you meet all of your state’s qualifications (below).
Prepare for the Utah Notary exam.
Register on the website of the Lieutenant Governor.
Sit for and pass the Notary exam.
Submit the $95 fee for test and administration, and your results will be immediate upon payment.
Fill out, sign, and file a criminal background check waiver.
Obtain a $5,000 surety bond and submit the form through the internet.
Have your Oath of Office notarized and submit it through the internet.
You will receive your Certificate of Authority of Notary Public via email after it has been processed.

Once you have your bond, seal, journal and commission you are ready to start performing notarial acts as a commissioned notary in Utah.
