How to Become an Online Notary in New Hampshire



As of February 6, 2022, Notaries in New Hampshire who already have a commission can apply to perform remote online notarizations (RONs). If you’re interested in becoming a remote online Notary in New Hampshire, follow the steps below:

Have an existing commission as a traditional Notary Public.
Contract and connect with a RON technology provider that qualifies under state requirements.
Let your Secretary of State know of your intent to perform online notarizations and give them the name of your chosen RON provider.

What are the requirements to become a Notary in New Hampshire?



In order to become a Notary in New Hampshire, you must meet the following requirements:

New Hampshire Notaries must be at least 18 years old
Be a legal resident of the state.
New Hampshire Notaries must be able to read and write English.
You must pass a criminal background check with no felonies or misdemeanors.
You must not have any prior suspensions or revocations of your Notary Commission within the past 5 years, unless you can prove rehabilitation for such revocation.
You must be of sound character and integrity.
You must possess a valid photo ID issued by the state or federal government.
You must take an approved Notary education course or examination.
You must purchase a surety bond and provide proof of the same with your application.
You must submit an application to the Secretary of State along with your oath and the required fees.

How to Become a Traditional Notary in New Hampshire (Get your Notary Commission)



To become an New Hampshire Notary Public, you need to complete the following:

Assure you meet all of your state’s qualifications (see below).
Complete your New Hampshire Notary Application. Have two NH Notaries and one NH registered voter endorse your application.
Sign the application in front of a Notary Public or a Justice of the Peace.
Complete your Criminal Record Release Authorization Form and get it notarized.
Submit your application (with $75 fee) and Criminal Record Release Authorization Form to the New Hampshire Secretary of State.
When your application has been processed, your commission, oath, index card and other information will be mailed to you.
Sign and take your oath of office in the presence of two individuals who are either Notaries Public or Justices of Peace. Those who sign your oath must also sign your commission.
Return the oath to the Secretary’s office in a timely manner.
Obtain your commission and keep it for your records. You are required to sign the index card ansd mail it to your county’s Superior Court.
Buy your Notarial Seal and Journal

Once you have your bond, seal, journal and commission you are ready to start performing notarial acts as a commissioned notary in New Hampshire.
